Both visual art exhibitions this month feature San Diego's emerging artists who are motivated to take the next step from street art to fine art. Many of these artists are showing in a gallery exhibition for the very first time. The producers are excited to be presenting 32 fresh voices from San Diego's local art scene.

The Business of Art Showcase features a dozen artists who participated in this year’s scholarship. The Business of Art scholarship is awarded to one lucky art student or emerging artist who has a body of work to showcase and is interested in selling their artwork. The scholarship includes a booth at the prestigious art festival, professional development throughout 2017, and an impressive marketing package. Over 30 artists applied for this year’s opportunity.

Mikaela McLeish has been selected as the 2017 scholar. Having recently received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, Mikaela McLeish is a figurative oil painter constructing images from photo-montages of found photography to explore beauty through the grotesque. In addition to participating in the showcase, she will feature her works at the 33rd Annual Mission Federal ArtWalk in Little Italy to held on April 29 and 30.
