Who is Visual AIDS?
Over 40 years into the AIDS epidemic, there is still no cure or vaccine. 38 million people are living with HIV and AIDS across the world, and more than 25% still do not have access to effective medication.
Since 1988, Visual AIDS has nurtured a community of nearly 1,000 artists living with HIV and worked to preserve the legacies of those lost to AIDS. Local artists like Patrick N Brown, John Keasler and Patric Stillman among others are among this group. Visual AIDS’ Red Ribbon program offers direct support to artists with HIV and Visual AIDS has given $670,000 in direct grants over the years. Additionally they produce arts programs, publications and online exhibits. For World AIDS Day, they have commissioned 63 short films that are screened across the country.
Postcards From the Edge is an opportunity for artists of all backgrounds to connect to the mission of Visual AIDS while sharing their work with new collectors; for collectors to be introduced to new work that moves them; and for our community to come together to support artists living with HIV and the legacies of those lost to AIDS.
Details to participate in the national exhibit in New York can be found on Visual AIDS website: https://postcards.visualaids.org/
Please note that their participation details are different from the San Diego edition.
All Postcards From the Edge proceeds from the San Diego benefit will support the programs of Visual AIDS.
